Our Grovsnus Black, Strong Portion Review

Launched in 2009 and made by Swedish Match in Göteborg, Sweden, Grovsnus Svart or Black is classified as a White type portion which means that the portions do not go thru the final step in the manufacturing process that adds a bit more moisture to them. By omitting this step, Grov Svart’s material remains black in color and a bit dryer than the regular types. We know what you’re saying, how can a white portion be black? Well, the material is the same soft, teabag type material that Swedish Match uses in all their portions just black in color instead of white. This is one of the unique traits in Grov Svart and the reason for the “Svart”, which means “black” in Swedish, in the name! The material is comfortable in the lip for as long as the flavor lasts which is about 2 hours. Each can of Grove White contains 24, one gram portions with each having 12 mg of Nicotine. The can its self is made of gold colored plastic with a plasticized paper label that seals the lid to the bottom well until you open it and there is a used portion compartment concealed in the lid! Now that you have the basics of Grov Svart, let’s see what the flavors are! Swedish Match describes Grovsnus Svart as a robust and well rounded snus with a strong tobacco flavor and a hint of Vanilla. While this is an accurate description, we think the flavors are reversed in their intensity. Grov Svart’s tobacco flavor is there but, actually takes second chair to the vanilla and pepper flavors. While you would think that the vanilla would bring the tobacco flavor out, it’s the tobacco that actually accentuates the vanilla and gives it an almost white chocolate flavor. The light peppery flavor also adds another dimension to the overall taste but, this is what we think, we want to know what your thoughts are. Absolutely no bergamot or citrus, just stout tobacco flavour, lightly salted, and some vanilla for sure. Nice smooth finish without bitterness. The nic hit is fast and quite strong. An excellent field snus when you're out working with your hands.

I Threw a can of this into my last order on a whim. I wish I would have ordered more. Inside the classy can is the Swedish match spiral portion arrangement. It looks for all the world like Onyx inside that Grovsnus Svart can. But the flavor is quite different, less pepper and no bergamont is detectable. I percieve tobacco, peat, smoke and a background of leather. The portions are a bit drier than Onyx and don't drip much. I'll be ordering more of this

Deeeeeeeeelicious! The only black portion I'd tried prior to these were the General Onyx, which I liked ok. These blow them out of the water. These are delicious snus, with a perfect hit. Strength is just about right. I very much enjoy switching back and forth during the day between these and Ettan. Great combo. smile:D

Very good strong tobacco flavor which i like. Never tried a black portion snus before this is the first one. Good tobacco flavor that lasts a long time well over an hour. Nice nicotine hit. Its does have a bit of a drip. This snus is very enjoyable rich and strong. Recommended for those who like straight tobacco flavor. 5/5
