Go back Our General, Loose ReviewWith a grind and flavor that’s been around for over 100 years General loose is made by Swedish Match in Göteborg, Sweden, and is classified as a loose (lös in Swedish) type snus with a coarse grind which means that the pieces of tobacco are a bit larger than a normal grind but not cut like the American smokeless brands. This grind is much more comfortable in the lip and easy to mold either with a tool or by hand. The prilla made by a tool outlasts the one made by hand during our tests but, both last for as long as 2 hours with little prilla degradation and the flavor seems to go on for much longer! Each can of General loose contains 45 grams of snus with a Nicotine content of 8 mg per gram. General loose’s can is unique in the fact that Swedish match is one of the few snus manufacturers that still prefers the paperboard bottom cans with a gold colored plastic lid. The can really hasn’t changed too much with the plastic lid replacing the old metal ones being only one of two changes. The lid makes a pretty tight seal with the bottom and doesn’t accidently pop off in your pocket. The can also keeps the snus pretty fresh due to the thin layer of paraffin wax that lines the bottom of the can but, you’re here for the flavor, not the can so, let’s take a look! General loose’s flavor is the other thing that hasn’t really changed in the past 100+ years since it was introduced back in the 19th century. The earthy, subtly sweet taste of the handpicked tobaccos from around the world is combines with the hints of citrus and a slight peppery flavor to make a flavor that is unmistakably General. The citrus flavor in General loose is actually bergamot which has the flavor of a cross between a lemon and a grapefruit. We feel that General loose will make a great snus for the beginner that wants to experience loose type snus due to its mild flavor and easy molding as well as the experienced snuser that wants to taste what Swedish snus was meant to taste like! The very best snus in the world. I like to buy a can of something else sometimes (Ettan or Grov loose) but 99% of the time, I have this.

The comment by VikingWarlord is almost exactly what I was going to say. Since I'm just starting in snus I ordered a variety of products and pure smokeless tobacco flavors have never been my thing in the past, but I wanted to get a broad range of flavors to try and this one seemed to be the most popular snus product I could find. The flavor of this product can be described as "beautiful" and complex. It has a rich and interesting flavor without being overwhelming or overly robust. It's like when you dont need to turn up the volume on the radio because the music is coming in so clearly.

This is my main stay snus! It has the best balance of moisture, texture, and flavor of all loose snus I've tried. This stuff is great.

I'm originally from Florida and have dipped Copenhagen for 18 years and thought that was the best tasting dip until I was introduced to a can of General Snus while in Scotland. I've managed to quit dipping Copenhagen after 18 years and have moved onto "The General"!!! You won't find a better tasting snus on the market in my humble opinion.

Man, I can't believe I'm only the second one to review this snus. I get the impression that this is the standard snus in Sweden. Like the Marlboro red of snus. Anyway I love it! Its handsdown my favorite loose. I've recently orderd several loose snus' all 5 out of the general line up. Don't get me wrong, they're all good. All quality products and maybe even all very simalr but between the smooth rich flavour and coarse grind of loose general (which I find to last longer in shape and taste than the fine grounds) it makes for the perfectly standard everyday snus. My first choice for loose.

I recently ordered a variety of loose and portioned snus. I have been a long time dipper (Kodiak and Grizzly Wintergreen) and I wanted to try the authentic snus the way it is supposed to be. I was never a fan of Copenhagen or any straight flavor American smokeless tobaccos so I was kind of afraid I wasnt going to like the traditonal Swedish brands. But I said to myself "if your gonna do this your gonna do it right." So this was the first brand I tried out, once I received my shipment. And my verdict is, Awesome! This stuff has set the bar. It has a citrus/pepper flavor that is great and the tobacco flavor tops it off so nicely. I suggest trying it I can't wait to try more of the General line. Everything about this screams quality tobacco product. And this has got me very excited because its the first snus product I have ever tried and is so good.
