Go back Our Gotland Grey, Loose ReviewLaunched in 2008 and made on the island of Gotland, Sweden by Gotlandssnus AB, Gotlands Anissnus, or Gray as it’s otherwise known, is classified as a coarse ground snus which means that the tobacco pieces are a bit larger than the fine grind type. This leaves the surface area of each piece larger and easier to mold into a prilla. Also, coarser ground snus tends to hold a prilla’s shape longer no matter if you use a tool or hand mold it. The first prilla we tested was made with a 3 ml tool and kept its shape for over 2 hours while the hand shaped prilla lasted a little less than 2 hours before it began to fall apart but the flavor could have lasted much longer! Each can of Gotlandssnus Anissnus loose contains 45 grams of snus with a Nicotine content of 9 mg per gram. Gotlandssnus also uses a variety of tobacco from around the world to produce Gotland’s Gray including Alida tobacco that’s actually grown on the island of Gotland, Sweden where Gotlands Anissnus is made. The can that Gotlandssnus uses for Gray is made of gray plastic with a plastic, snap-on lid which makes a great seal to keep it on when it’s in your pocket or bag! The label is a paper material and does not extend over the lid. It’s really not needed because the lid, when snapped down, is pretty secure but enough about the can, let’s go on to the flavor. Gotlands Anissnus is pretty unique in a couple of ways. First, Gotlandssnus uses tobacco from all around the world along with Alida tobacco that is grown on the island of Gotland. This tobacco gives Gotlands Anissnus a unique taste that can only be found in Gotlandssnus. Gotlands Gray is an Anise flavored snus which has the flavor of Black Licorice but, when the strong flavor of licorice is combined with the hint of herbs and the herbal, earthy flavor of the tobacco, it imparts a slight sweetness that we feel makes for a great snus but, we’d like you to tell us what you taste! Probably one of few of my favorite specialty flavored tobaccos.
Anise is one of my favorite spices and this hits it the spot. If only more U.S. foods would consider using more spices we'd not rely on unhealthy ways to make things taste good.

I was honestly surprised by how much I liked this. It hand bakes in the same way as the Gotland yellow label, but with one hell of an anise taste. The aromatic is intense and so is the flavor. If you dis-like black licorice, as I do, then you may not like this, but as I said, it surprised me. I prefer the yellow label of all Gotlandsnus products, but the Grey is excellent and it's worth buying a tin or two just for the experience. The spicy taste that makes the yellow so unique is present in this flavor, but only lingering in the background. Another excellent product from Gotlandsnus.

Just a small correction... I believe this was launched in 2003, and was the first of the Gotlandssnus line. In any case it's a great snus, and is like Jagermeister in a tin. Strong anis flavor, and a pleasant bitterness :^)

The can was packed full with 50 grams of snus! The tobacco is high quality, kind of fluffy and comfortable in the lip. This snus has a potent smell and strong taste of black licorice. It is not a subtle taste or smell by any means, but if you like black licorice then you should love this stuff.

I detect a hint of anise in montecristo los and was hoping for something like that
Sadly, though this is a good quality tobacco in a great package the anise was just a little too overpowering for me. Much prefer the yellow.

i got this as a free can i dont like it but if your a fan of Licorice then go for it the can is cool

Love the yellow not a fan of this, the grey, at all, too much anise for me but if you like anise then give it a try.

I order this flavor every time I need to restock, but usually only 1 tin.
While it is a great snus and has a strong taste, one that I enjoy. It just gets to be a bit much if you use it to much. If you like to rotate tins, then I would suggest to always keep one of these in your catalog.

I was wary of this one since I'm not a licorice fan by any means, but it's really awesome. Just enough anise to get your attention, but not enough to overpower anything. Gotlands knocks it out of the park, as usual.
