Go back Our Gustavus, Loose ReviewLaunched in 2002 and made in Sweden by JTI Tobacco, Gustavus Original loose is classified as a fine grind snus which means that the tobacco is ground in to pieces that are similar to fine sand and, when moisture is added, the feel is that of wet flour. This can make it difficult for the beginner in hand baking to mold a prilla and keep its shape in the lip but with experience, or a tool, the prilla is pretty comfortable in the lip and holds its shape for over 2 hours with the flavor lasting just about as long. Each can of Gustavus Original loose has 45 grams of snus and a Nicotine content of 8 mg per gram. The amount will vary though depending on the size of the prilla. The can that Gustavus Original loose comes in has recently received a makeover from the original gray plastic can with a blue label to a more modern looking black plastic can with a black and silver foil label and the Gustavus logo embossed in silver foil on the lid but, enough about the can, you’re here to find out about the flavor so, let’s take a look! Gustavus Original loose’s flavor is actually pretty complex for a lower priced snus! Flavors of rich tobacco and bergamot (for those of you that have never tasted Bergamot, it has a flavor that’s a mix of lemon and grapefruit) are the dominant tastes while hints of salt and a slightly sweet, herbal flavor are in the background. The surprising thing with Gustavus Original loose is how much mellower it is than the portion version. There is also a considerably less salty flavor with Gustavus Original loose as well. We think, as a “Value Priced” snus, Gustavus Original loose has a low price and a flavor that rivals it’s higher priced competition but, this is what we think, we what to hear what your thoughts are! So, why not add a can of Gustavus Original loose snus to your next order and leave us a review telling us what you taste. We’ll be looking forward to reading it!

This is seriously decent snus. I feel kind of silly for not having tried it sooner. It bakes up really easy and has a really sweet bergamot taste, no anise, no citrus/lime taste, just something a tad sweeter than say general or skruf. Very coarse grind and very moist. A hand baked prilla holds together really well with this one. I just can't find a damn thing wrong with this.

Black licorice? General? What are you guys tasting? This is a heavily flavored and salty snus. Citrus components. By far my favorite snus. Love it.

this snus reminds me strongly of general -- except with a coarser consistensy --- coarser snus to me is harder to bake -- but stays together better and doesn't 'slide' like very fine snus.
the flavor tastes like general. and it's cheaper how can you lose.
