Go back Our Ettan, Portion ReviewEttan Original portion snus is another fine snus manufactured by the folks at Swedish Match in Gothenburg, Sweden. Ettan Original is classified as a regular portion snus meaning that each portion goes thru an additional step in the manufacturing process, which adds a bit of additional moisture to them, that helps the flavors meld together and bring out the flavor quicker once it’s in the lip. Each can of Ettan Original portion has 24, one gram portions with each having 8 mg of Nicotine. The portion material that Swedish Match uses for Ettan Original is the same soft material that they use in all their portion snus and is comfortable in the lip for over 2 hours. Ettan original’s can is made of a Gold colored plastic with a paper label that seals the lid to the bottom until you open it and yes, there is a used portion compartment in the lid! Now that you know the basics, let’s get into the flavor! Ettan is one of Sweden’s oldest snus brands with a flavor that’s basically been unchanged since 1822. Ettan Original portion was introduced in 1990 and carries on the flavor tradition with a basic recipe of Tobacco, water and salt. The only addition to the original recipe is a smoky flavor! This smoky flavoring, along with the flavors of high grade tobaccos from around the world and salt, creates a one of a kind flavor that combines the peaty, leathery flavor of the tobacco with the slight smoky flavor to create hints of dark, bitter chocolate in the lip as well as in the nose! Actually, when you first open a can of Ettan Original, the scent you get is of a dark, European chocolate as opposed to the rich tobacco that is the first flavor you taste when in the lip but, this is what we taste. My all time favorite. Plain, smokey tobacco flavor, with subtle, chocolate-like notes. The nicotine is good enough. The portions are wet and drip really quick--no problem, just spit it out after half an hour and place a new one in!

Started off on General portions of all kinds, original, white, es, decided to give Ettan a try. Not really my kind of snus. Flavor comes on hard and fast but doesn't change it's profile at all. Very consistent tasting, even if I do not enjoy it very much. Not the worst nic for an 8mg portion, it's a good snack for someone coming off Ekstra Sterk. Not sure if they have a white portion but if they do I'd probably give that a higher rating because this stuff drips a lot for me.
Overall, not my favorite, but I can see why people would like it. Give it a shot. 3/5.

This is my new favorite snus. The taste is nice and subtle. with tastes of tobacco and salt make this a simple snus that is great to use all day long.

These are darned good. They are a solid everyday snus. I am an ex-smoker (thanks, snus!), and I usually go for strong portions. These are so good, though, that I'll definitely order them again. Delicious!

I've been snusing for about a year. I had skipped Ettan for most of this time because "tobacco" snus makes me think of "Copenhagen" dip - which I REALLY don't like the taste/smell of. Finally I tried Ettan. It's not "Copenhagen". It has a pleasant taste - the description above is accurate, chocolaty, leathery, etc. Do yourself a flavor and try at least one can. I don't think you will be disappointed.

It's the best there is when it comes to 8mg original portions. Period. The chocolate undertone is unique. The only snus with a similar flavor profile is Camel which us Americans can unfortunately no longer have.

I tried almost every brand, and ETTAN is one of my favourite. Is very close to the description (flavour,portion material,etc). Always is in my order.

This is one of the kinds of snus that always gives me a "thick throat" - it has to be some ingredient in it that my throat hates since I always experience this phenomenon with Ettan. It was the first snus I tried 20 years ago when I first started and I went for it for two months thinking that this throat thing was part of using snus. Now I know better. If you experience this thing yourself - try another brand. The taste is not bad though.
