Go back Our Grovsnus Black, Strong Portion ReviewLaunched in 2009 and made by Swedish Match in Göteborg, Sweden, Grovsnus Svart or Black is classified as a White type portion which means that the portions do not go thru the final step in the manufacturing process that adds a bit more moisture to them. By omitting this step, Grov Svart’s material remains black in color and a bit dryer than the regular types. We know what you’re saying, how can a white portion be black? Well, the material is the same soft, teabag type material that Swedish Match uses in all their portions just black in color instead of white. This is one of the unique traits in Grov Svart and the reason for the “Svart”, which means “black” in Swedish, in the name! The material is comfortable in the lip for as long as the flavor lasts which is about 2 hours. Each can of Grove White contains 24, one gram portions with each having 12 mg of Nicotine. The can its self is made of gold colored plastic with a plasticized paper label that seals the lid to the bottom well until you open it and there is a used portion compartment concealed in the lid! Now that you have the basics of Grov Svart, let’s see what the flavors are! Swedish Match describes Grovsnus Svart as a robust and well rounded snus with a strong tobacco flavor and a hint of Vanilla. While this is an accurate description, we think the flavors are reversed in their intensity. Grov Svart’s tobacco flavor is there but, actually takes second chair to the vanilla and pepper flavors. While you would think that the vanilla would bring the tobacco flavor out, it’s the tobacco that actually accentuates the vanilla and gives it an almost white chocolate flavor. The light peppery flavor also adds another dimension to the overall taste but, this is what we think, we want to know what your thoughts are. I didn't like this one the first time I tried it. I thought the flavor was a bit TOO leathery, but it's a nice nic hit, for sure. Now I'm trying it again after it's been in my freezer for a couple weeks. It's a tolerable flavor, I suppose. Nonetheless, I probably won't order it again. I'll stick to Skruf and Onyx as my go-to snus.

I like the regular Grov and automatically presumed id like this one. They're nothing alike! The best way I can describe it is my heads telling me i'm about to taste tobacco and then, bang, I taste vanilla. Very strange and to me quite sickly. It does last a while and the taste does improve but its one for some reason I cant get along with. The taste seems to over power you before you even get it in place.

Tried it for first time ,loved it .I've been a gereral and claq user for going on 6 months but will keep this in rotation.A little drier than most but nice delivery on all aspects!

I like this a little more than the general, much less salt and more tobacco taste, IMO. Will definitely be in regular rotation on future orders!

Never had this before. I am about 10 mins into my first portions.
First impressions. Upon opening the tin, I took a smell and the first thing that hit me was the slight vanilla fragrance put it reminds of the smell of my favourite Pipe tobacco samuel gawith 1792 this has tonquin in it and as such smells a little vanilla ish albeith this snus does not smell as strong as pipe baccer. The dark black portions look really sinister and intriguing The taste is awsome a very understated and subtle flavour like most snus which I love. The strongest taste is the tobacco. and also a sterk brand to boot. 10/10 I shall be getting this in rolls in future and stocking up my freezer.

Very good snus. Flavor is long-lasting and very subtle. I don't even care for aniseed, but there's only a hint of it and I think it actually adds something to this snus.
I've found it to be better under the right side of my lip instead of under the left side - why this is I don't know.

I quite like Grovsnus black. It has a good tobacco taste, with a substantial nicotine hit. It may well become a regular for me.

When this snus first came out i could not wait to get a can. I like Grov loose and my thinking was a strong Grov Portion would be good.
Well I got my can asap and disappointment city it was and threw it out. A few days ago i made an order and for some reason i got a can of it again. It's real good this time. I think it would be a lot better in a regular portion and not white/black. Maybe i was just expecting something else the first time and it did not turn out like i was expecting. My advice is don't expect the old grov. I think they would have did better to name this something else. it does have a nic kick about like N&J but more.

The worst snus I have tried to date. I tried the Grovsnus portion and loose and like both of those a great deal. This is bitter and nasty. Tasted like a dirty ash tray. I tried one portion for about ten minutes and couldn't take it any more. I threw the rest immediately in the trash. Don't get this thinking you will get a stronger Grovsnus portion as you will be severely dissapointed.

Wow. I loved this snus. Will certainly keep ordering this. A+ all the way. If you haven't tried, now is the time, its simply excellent.

I tried General Onyx Black before ever trying this. While I won't be ordering a ten-pack log of either anytime soon, I will say I enjoy this a bit better. Onyx is very good snus, but this one is less salty and I'm more of a fan of a subtle vanilla aftertaste than Onyx's lemon hints. I'll probably throw in a can or two of this in the future.

Grovsnus Svart is a pretty decent snus. I enjoyed the blend of flavors and it has attractive packaging. Here's my thoughts:
Taste - The flavor comes on gradually with a bit of tobacco and aniseed. Then you start to taste a hint of vanilla and leather. The flavor is well balanced with nothing that sticks out more than the others. Nicotine - Here's another strong snus with the same characteristics as the others. The onset is gradual and increases over time with a slow tapering off after removal. Mouth Feel - The black portions are less irritating than onyx and feel comfortable with little burn. I did not notice a drip. The Verdict - Here's another snus I will order every now and then to keep when I want something different. I like the flavor, and it has a nice effect and nifty packaging. I rate it a 4 out of 5.

I bought a roll of this and I am very happy with my purchase. This has a pure tobacco taste with a very slight vanilla hint coursing through it. I smell anise in it but don't really taste it. Truly this has hit my top spot for snus. I also purched the General Onyx in this order but haven't gotten to it yet. We will see if it can beat the Grov Black.

This has turned into one of favorites.
Nice long lasting taste with just a little bit more Nic hit, Definitely a different taste then General, but you can sure like both of them. I do pick up the slight anise but haven't tasted any vanilla yet as others have noticed. I probably burnt out my taste buds with cigars.

This snus is bad, real bad. Lots of people talk about the hint of anise and the vanilla, but the anise comes on stronger the longer you keep it in and becomes overpowering. Honestly, I couldn't keep it in my lip for more than about 15 minutes, and the taste lingers. Just...eww.

I like this one a lot. Not simply strong Grov. Similar in taste to General Onyx but with a less pronounced citrus element.

I bought a roll of this last time round in addition to my usual GROV white order. I really like the flavour of this new black portion and recommend it to anyone who likes a dry, crisp flavour with just a hint of aniseed.
I shan't be abandoning GROV white, but I shall be adding this to my order again!

Having been a user of Grov Los for many years now I thought I would try the new Svart.
I was expecting it to be almost exactly like Grov but just with a stronger kick. I was wrong. It is one of the best flavoured snus I have ever tried. It has a creamy taste and it did not raise the pulse as I expected it would. Grov Svart is to Grov what Vanilla Coke s to Coke! An improvement on perfection! I hope they make a los version soon.

This snus is fantastic. At first there is just a hint of anise that makes you do a double take to really see if its there. The vanilla flavor then comes in mixed with some tobacco flavor. Absolutely perfect blend of flavors. My taste buds are very excited to have this snus. Coupled with enough nicotine to get the job done right - this gets an A+. One of the best tasting snuses on the market. Well done!

GROV loose or portion I love, but I did not like the taste of this...normal GROV has a great pure tobacco taste, but this tastes different, slightly pickled flavor.

General Onyx is my favorite snus; however, the black portion Grovsnus is an adequate alternative, particularly with the lower price.
