The prototype for these earrings, which probably dates from the Middle Ages, was found in Inari in Lappland. The ancient jewelry designs of the Saame people were quite ornate. The Saame people preferred silver jewellery, which was often given to the family of the bride-to-be to celebrate the betrothal.
