The prototype for this ornamented brooch, which was found at Tuukkala in Mikkeli, dates from the northern crusades (1150-1250 A.D.). Lighter jewelry was replacing the heavier Viking style by this time, and the use of silver was increasing. The broochs extensive floral ornamentation is evidence of the designs eastern origin.
Location of discovery: Mikkeli-Tuukkala. Period: 1150-1250. Material: Bronze.
