Kalevala Koru has, in cooperation with German archaeologists, produced a unique jewellery collection in which the designs are based on those of historic pieces of jewellery discovered at Lübeck. The jewellery represents the Central European style that had spread also to the northern shores of the Baltic Sea. The ring eternalises a pair of joined hands - emblematic of a vow or a solemn oath. The motif was popular in engagement rings during the late Middle Ages. This ring dates from 16th century Lübeck. As time passed on, the ring for some reason ended up in the Trave River in Lubeck. Whether a disillusioned fiancée or fiancé threw the ring in the river or whether it fell in by mistake remains shrouded in mystery. The pair of hands depicted on the ring symbolises the engaged couples love for one another and their joint future.
Location of discovery: Lyypekki. Period: 1500. Material: Silver or Gold (18 carat).
