Northern Lights Collection
The Northern Lights Collection is Designed by Jan Johansson.
The names are taken from Swedish nature and the stark beauty of the Nordic winter.
Crystal Ice - clear as ice, fresh as the purest water as it reflects the feeble rays of the pale winter sun.
Crystal Star - Unique, like the delicate pattern of a snowflake or cold stars set in the dramatic black of a winter sky.
Crystal Flower - A vigorous winter bloom that with stern northern resolve defies the bitter chill of night and the heavy winter snows.
Crystal Dream - Like a dream of the northern lights and teams of huskies, of bracing evening walks on snow so cold it crunches, of snow-clad slopes sparkling in the sun.
 Jan Johansson (b.1942) came to Orrefors in 1969 after training as a silversmith in Stockholm at the college of Arts, Crafts and design. As an artist he is interested in refining the optical effects of pure, sculptural crystal, as in his cut-glass Cascade, Horizon and Marin series. Cut crystal sculptures set on a solide marble stand are an important component of his art glass production. Jan Johansson has actively sought new means of expression and has broadened the range of the Fuga technique.
One of his more recent successes is the Balans series, which with it's drop-shaped stem, lends balance both the design and the hand.
