Glass used as reliquary, decorated with glass threads. Replica of findings in Germany from the 15th century. Soft green-colored glass.
Organized glassblowing techniques in larger scale was not introduced in Sweden until the 16th - 17th century. Already for 2000 years ago glasses have been imported to Sweden. In the beginning from the Mediterranean area and later from the German-Roman and Frankish empires (around AD 500-1100) and from the Medieval period (in Central Europe between AD 500-1500 and in Scandinavia AD 1050-1500) mostly from Germany and Bohemia (todays Czeck Republic). Cups with glass threads was common during the 15th century. This glass has often been used as reliquary, one has kept fragment of relics in the Goblet which has been sealed with a wax cover. The glasses have often been kept immured in the altars of churches. The original that this glass was made from was found in Grambek in northern Germany 1914. The glass was found in an altar in the chapel of Grambek.
