Replica of glass found during the archeological excavations of Castle Fjord of Kalmar, Sweden, dated back to the 15th century. Soft green colored glass, height: 8,19 in. (20,8 cm), top diameter: 3,35 in. (8,5 cm), foot diameter: 3,78 in. (9,6 cm).
This kind of "dual conical" glass started to appear in a primitive form from the early Medieval period (12th century) in central Europe. This castle glass is however a more sophisticated type and is therefore estimated to be from the 15th century. The very special thing about the Castle glass is the way it´s manufactured. The glass is blown into one whole piece (with the exception of the glass thread put up on). The foot is created during melted form when the glass blower sucks together the melted glass and then only has to level the under side to make it steady and durable. This way of manufacturing make the glasses vary in size. Like many of the glasses during this period it has been imported to Sweden from the Glassworks in Central Europe.
