Our 01 Original Portion Review

Released as a completely new and innovative snus brand in October 2009 by Swedish Match and made in Gothenburg, Sweden, 01 Original portion snus is classified as a Regular type portion snus since it goes thru the additional wetting step in the manufacturing process that adds a bit more moisture to each portion to help the flavors meld together and bring them out faster when in the lip. The snus is made from a new formula that is basically run free! The portion material Swedish Match uses for 01 Original is the same soft, teabag type material they use in all their snus and is comfortable in the lip for over 2 hours. What adds to the comfort is an innovative new portion shape that’s a bit longer than the standard portion and a bit thinner as well. This longer, thinner shape helps to keep the portion in place better and is actually more discreet. Each can of 01 Original portion snus has 24, one gram portions with each having 8 mg of Nicotine. 01 Original’s can is a basic, silver colored, plastic can with a clear plastic label that seals the lid to the bottom until you open it. Swedish Match also simplified the label and added 5 different icons that explain weight, portion size, strength, drip rate and flavor which is basically a new feature in the snus world! There is a used portion compartment in the lid, right under the big, black “01” but, you’re also here for the flavor of this brand new snus brand so, let’s take a look. Swedish Match created 01 Original as a snus designed by the snus world, for the snus world. They accomplished this by taking all the suggestions they received from their test panel and created a brand around it. The flavor of 01 Original is just as the panel suggested; a fresh tobacco taste with nothing else. What we taste are the light flavors of the high quality tobaccos, hand selected from all corners of the globe along with a bit of salt. What we mean by light is that the overall flavor of 01 Original is of pure tobacco but the flavor is not as prominent as most regular type portions due to the lack of juice from the “No Drip” formula. We think that 01 Original portion snus will make a great starter snus due to the light taste and low juice factor as well as an everyday snus for the experienced snus user for the same reason but, we want you to decide! Got this snus a couple days ago. It's not a bad snus, typical strength. One thing that frustrated me is that they advertise no drip on the can. This isn't the case. These things run like crazy, and it doesn't take very long for them to start either... 10-15 minutes which is frustrating (yes I know these are not a white portion). I've used General extra stark portion, and those hold up much better than these. Well, at least now I know what to get next time. If you like the taste of snus, these are for you, if your not a big fan of dripping pouches, I would suggest a different brand.
