Go back Our General Ekstra Sterk, Loose ReviewIntroduced in 2009 and made by Swedish Match in Göteborg, Sweden, General Ekstra Sterk loose is classified as a loose (lös in Swedish) type snus with a medium grind which means that the tobacco is not as coarse as long cut tobacco but not ground into a powder like texture like you would find in a fine grind. It’s right in the middle and easy to mold either with a tool or by hand. The prilla made by a tool outlasts the one made by hand but both last for as long as 2 hours with little prilla degradation. Each can of General Ekstra Sterk loose contains 45 grams of snus with a Nicotine content of 13 mg per gram. General Ekstra Sterk’s can is unique in the fact that Swedish match is one of the few snus manufacturers that still prefers the paperboard bottom cans with a gold colored plastic lid. The lid makes a pretty tight seal with the bottom and doesn’t accidently pop off in your pocket. The can also keeps the snus pretty fresh due to the thin layer of paraffin wax that lines the bottom of the can but, you’re here for the flavor, not the can so, let’s take a look! The same trademark flavors of tobacco, salt and lemon, that are found in General loose, are also in General Ekstra Sterk but a little more pronounced. The main flavors here are of the hand selected tobaccos from around the world and a smoky element that’s unique to General Ekstra Sterk loose. This smoky flavor gives the snus a subtle sweetness that mixes well with the tobacco and lemon. The black pepper flavor is only a background taste here as well as the salt. There is a slight burn in the back of the throat but it’s from the high amount of Nicotine and is found in all snus with Nicotine levels over 14 mg. when compared to its portion sibling, General Ekstra Sterk loose has the same flavors but a bit more mellow. This is due to a lower salt content in the loose. While this is what we taste, we want to know what you think! This was the first loose snus i tried. I read some of the reviews and it seemed pretty solid so i ordered a tin. The snus bakes very nicely/easily but it didn't stay in my lip very well. The flavor reminded me of bergamont/black tea, has a very earthy taste. i would give this snus a 4/5

Easy to hand bake classic strong tobacco and salt taste and big nic hit, a close second to skruf stark loose for me!I will be purchasing this one again in the future!

Nice and strong with the general taste but i still like skruf stark a little better but this is a close second!

I find this overall supperior to the regular General. Holds a pris better, tastes better, and has more niccotine kick than Skruf Stark! The only downside is the cardboard can. Just ordered 10 more cans.

Further to my previous comment. Now I have had 2 days with this snus I have more comments.
I have found making a pris of this snus is better handbaked than using the icetool. for some reason the prilla does not hold for me when I have used the icetool. I have also found that as this is strong snus smaller sized prillas are better. They hold together longer.

I've tried most if not all the general variants of General, even Onyx, but only in portions.
Well, I took posession of my first can of General ES, and it is pretty good stuff! I'm a die-hard Skruf user (and I have the toss-in money clips from orders to prove it), and I still shall remain so, but I'm putting this in the lineup as a fine loose with good tobacco taste. I only wish it came in a plastic can, but hey...it really doesn't stay around that long.

Love the General ES portions, and now I love the lös. Takes a little while for the flavor to kick in, but it's worth the wait. The portions can juice a little strong sometimes, but that's not an issue here. Not overpowering at all. Really great snus.

I have tried the other sterk loose brands, thunder and odin. I really dislike Thunder, and Odin was not much better.
I love General and really like the Sterk Portions and the extra sterk portions and have enjoyed their regular loose. So my 5 cans of extra sterk loose arrived today. I did a 2 click portion on a 3ml icetool. It satisfied my nic requirement very quickly and has much more flavour/taste then thunder or odin. However I find it is not as peppery as the portion version. It does last for hours. But out of their 3 sterk offerings I much prefer the Extra Sterk Portion. I will have to see how this goes. I am unsure it will become my regular loose.

They should have named this one "General Electric Ekstra Sterk"! But I guess that would be a trademark violation
Some of the other loose brands claim 16-17 mgs of nicotine. There is more to nicotine delivery than only the mgs of nicotine content. The PH level of the snus is the gateway of delivery. General Ekstra Sterk may "only" have 13 mgs nicotine but it also has the needed PH delivery system. In other words, it delivers nicotine fast and hard. Take note that I am an everyday Skruf Stark Loose user. When it comes to taste, it is sort of a real strong general with a sizzle. I have tasted snus that I liked better but it's taste is good. Warning! This is not your daddy's snus. Don't try this at home without adult supervision. Keep out of reach of children. Don’t drive or operate dangerous machinery until you now how this snus affects you. Discontinue use if you develop suicidal thoughts, mood or behavioral changes, agitation, restlessness, panic, irritability, rash, hives, difficulty breathing, hallucinations, fainting.
