Go back Our General, Portion ReviewIntroduced in 1985 by Swedish Match, General Portion snus is one of the most popular brands in Sweden. General portion is classified as a regular type portion meaning that each one goes thru a final step in the manufacturing process that adds a bit more moisture to each that aids the flavors in the snus to marry together and release it faster in the lip. The material that Swedish Match uses in General portion is the same soft material that they use in all their snus and remains comfortable in the lip for about 2 hours. Each can of General Portion contains 24, one gram portions with each one having 8 mg of Nicotine. The can is made of black plastic with a matte texture and the classic General logo affixed to the lid and yes, there is a used portion compartment in the lid. Now that we know the basics, let’s talk flavors! General Portion is sometimes known as General Original and the flavor is just that, original! The handpicked tobaccos from places like Honduras, Africa, Nicaragua and the U.S., among other places, give General portion an earthy, leathery flavor with black pepper and salt in the background. The other flavor element is lemon! Not bergamot like most Swedish snus but lemon. The subtle lemon flavor enhances the earthy flavors in the snus while adding a hint of bitterness that makes the pepper flavor shine thru. The subtle lemon and salty flavors combine with the tobacco and pepper tastes to create a flavor that is distinctly General but, this is our opinion, we want to hear what you think of General Portion! New to snus and tried the American brands first. This is by far way better and the pepper salt taste is wonderful and seem to last quite a while. Will try more brands when I get better at this. It did help me quit smoking. Thanks

All day, every day! That's all there is to know about General Original Portion. I seriously go through too much of this stuff! More salt flavor than the loose/los, and great tobacco taste. Pairs extremely well with coffee and BEER!

The qulaity of this product is evident. All of the General products I have tried are fresh, high quality, and have depth in flavor. This one happens to be a little peppery for my taste. I also preper nicotine content to be in the 11-14 range. I can buy this locally, which is a plus. If you like a traditional snus, this is one to try. It is a good guage to use to describe and compare other snus to since it is the most popular brand. I won't order again but my buy a can at my local store once in a blue moon.

I did not like this at all at first. But, then again, I am a snubie so I don't have much to compare it to. I love the mouth feeling of this one. I have almost finished a can of it. It grew on me over time but I doubt it will be a regular for me. I don't like the bergamot taste and I find this snus too peppery for me. The nic kick is not bad, musch better than the mint and wintergreen flavors. The flavor of this snus lasts forever. I have had one in for 2 1/2 hours and it still had flavor! The pouches don't break open like the wintergreen and mint do. Only one tobacco shop in Vermont sells snus and they only carry General. So, I am sure when I am waiting for an order to arrive in the mail I will try this one out again sometime.

I've been off smoking for over 60 days. I figured it would be easier to quit smoking if I didn't try to quit nicotine at the same time. Snus makes this much easier. I'd been trying to quit for years. I used patches, gum, inhalers, e-cigarettes... you name it. If you want to quit smoking, then focus on the "quit smoking" part, and not on the "quit nicotine" part. You too can successfully quit smoking like I did!
General Portion made quitting smoking easy. The taste is excellent. I never thought I'd come to enjoy tobacco of this sort, but I now do, and General Portion is my "every day" snus.

This is the real stuff. No resemblance to a Skoal Bandit at all, except its appearance. I have tried the wintergreen and mintas well. The original General lasts much longer than the flavored versions. More satifying too. This is not a white portion, so it feels more moist and produces a little more spit. No sweetness here. Expect more of a salt-and-pepper flavor. Not as much nicotine as loose American dip, but definitely satisfying.
