Go back Our General Onyx, Black Portion ReviewLaunched in 2006 by Swedish Match AB, General Onyx portion snus is classified as a white type portion even though the material used in Onyx is black! As you all remember, white type portions do not go thru the final step in the manufacturing process that adds a bit more moisture to the portion. While this leaves the material a bit dry, Swedish Match uses a soft, black colored teabag type material that stays comfortable in the lip for as loge as the flavor lasts which is about 2 hours. Each can of General Onyx contains 24, one gram portions with each having 11 mg of Nicotine and arranged in the trademark “Star” pattern that Swedish Match reserves for only it’s top of the line snus brands! General Onyx’s can is made of black plastic with a flat black label that has gloss black embellishments. The Used portion compartment cap on the top of the lid is also embossed with the General logo on silver foil. The can is pretty unique but the snus inside is even more unique so, let’s take a look! General Onyx is described, by most people that have tried it, as Swedish Match’s crown jewel of the General snus line and we tend to agree. General Onyx’s flavor is of hand selected tobaccos from around the world, salt, black pepper and lemon. “Don’t you mean Bergamot?” No, General Onyx is one of the few Swedish snus brands that actually use lemon flavor instead of bergamot and the taste of lemons really matches well with the tobacco flavor. The taste is actually close to a grilled lemon with a bit of salt and black pepper sprinkled over it. The tobacco adds a bit of earthiness and a hint of sweetness which levels the flavor out! But, this is what we think of General Onyx’s flavor. We want to hear what you taste. So, give General Onyx portion snus a try and add a can or two to your next order. I am now over 4 months smoke free due to these great snus! This one is a real nice medium between the General White & Ekstra Sterk. The salmiak & licorice definitely add something to the citrus/salt/tobacco. A very fine product!

This is one heavy duty snus. I highly recommend it for those smokers that require a pack a day or more.

I have tried a lot of snus and this is the best everyday snus good buzz good taste it is well worth the cost very nice can also. All in all a very good everyday snus.

This snus is finding it's way out of the frig more times than not, a great one to keep around for an extra punch. The flavor is very unique. Nice to keep a few cans of the Onyx around, JIC.

  I have to Say first thought the packaging was very neat they were placed side by side...This is by far my favorite General snus..its even one of my favorite snus around

[FONT=Verdana]This was the first SNUS I ever tried and the experience was a shocker.
 Numb gums, saliva glands out of control, buzzing head. I had to take it out and come back to it a couple of hours later. I ended up giving the can away. But now after trying more than a dozen different brands and flavors, I have developed a taste for a stronger SNUS and I wish I had this one back!  I think this is going to be the one for me - I am now CRAVING Onyx. General regular and white taste great but dont last very long and are too weak for me now.
More importantly though, I went from smoking two packs a day to having absolutely no desire for cigarettes. I feel great and love SNUS. Onyx is definetely in the top five and yes, I do like the can!

Well I am new to Snus, (this is a change from dipping for the last 28 years) when I ordered some, I picked a large variety. 15 different Snus portions have crossed these lips. I have taken to Onyx. Good strong flavor. My wife even enjoys it so she has decided to do this instead of smoke. My next order though will include General Ekstra Sterk. I did not feel the "Nic Kick" in any of the Snus BUT it did satisfy my craving.

Oh my god, general onyx is the best snus. It's difficult to describe the flavor, but i would say it's like general only it does not get bitter, it lasts forever, and it has a more fresh lemon flavor. Almost like a fresh lemon juice instead of the bitter lemon zest of regular general.
The portions are also very nice and very smooth. It seems like they are made of a slightly different material. The logistical aspect of this snus is nice because it comes in a nicely arranged fan inside the can. The way it is packed inside the can makes it so every snus in the can is the same shape, kind of a wedge that's thicker on one side and thinner on the other. With other snus i always feel compelled to smash the packet a little and reshape the portion so i get a lot of surface area with my gums and the tobacco is evenly distributed. With onyx you can just pop it in your mouth and it's perfect. Does not get slimey or drippy, also does not develop the bitter taste that i get with general. I found the portions are a little more dry than a regular portion but a little more wet than a white. I simply wet the snus on both sides with my tongue and then put it in my lip. Nice amount of nicotine. Tastes great. Awesome product. It has a cool can too.

I am a snus user for about one year now. Generaly Onyx exceded all the other brands I tried and there have been many. My girlfriend also finds the scent to be "less obnoxious." It has a solid nicotine kick, a comfortable fit, and is very long lasting. The difference in price pays for itself do to its lasting over two hours. The flavor is strong but not overwhelming.

This is my favorite snus, tasty citrus/lemony flavor, good strength, cool looking black portions arranged in a spiral inside the black silver-lidded can. good product and good packaging. 5/5 stars

I'm not a big fan of general but I have to admit the onyx is pretty good so. Nice nic kick and I like the shape of the bag that really fits well under the lip. Nice can too.
You've to like citrus flavor. I prefer Nick&johnny black big time anyway

This is a great snus. Decent strength, but not too overwhelming for snus newbies. Unique flavor, not plain and peppery, not frilly and fruity. Even the presentation is nice, with all the pouches arranged in a nice little circle. By far my favorite medium strength non-white snus. Try stacking them on top of each other and putting four in your upper lip, two on each side. Their shape is practically made to do this. I can continue raving, but it isn't necesary, let me sum it up in one word -- perfect.

I don't know why everyone says this is pricey. So it costs an extra, what? 50 cents US? Well worth it. The closest to perfection I've yet had, rivaled only by Gotland Green. I can put one of these in my mouth in the morning and sometimes still be using the same one 3 hours later! This one is going on every order. Truly premium stuff.

I love this Grade-A snus. It's classy, and has the best pure tobacco flavor I've ever tried in a portion.
I use portion snus more often than los snus nowadays, as I can use it more discreetly when working, and without mess. But normally I prefer the flavor of los snus. General Onyx's flavor is every bit as flavorful as any los snus, the flavor lasts a long time. The texture and size of the pouch is perfect. I love the slightly salty-peppery taste, it brings out the flavor of the tobacco. Overall, an excellent snus, very well-made, and worth the added price.

 As mentioned by other this is a citrus peppery flavor snus and so far my favorite. Can is very classy. Not too strong, not too weak. This is perfect. I just ordered 20 cans.

I'm a stark/los fan myself and I picked up a few cans of this for a friend that likes portions. I must say IF I had to go for a portion snus this would be the one. Bold general flavors and strong nicotine content. Nice plastic cans (Why can't I get my Los in this style can?). Mine held flavor for a good hour and was satisfying enough for my tastes (former smoker and current General or Skruf stark user).
