Lundgrens Slim Mojito

“well-balanced, delicate, and unique”

With the dread chill of winter apparently having been shed here – along with any semblance of spring as we’ve gone from freezing to hot in days – the warmer weather evokes memories of wonderful summertime activities – going to the beach, enjoying the sunlight, and one of my personal favorites – cold drinks.

I know snus has come in many flavors, and in the “cold drinks” department, I’ve delved as far as a single malt whisky snus. It wasn’t bad but it was also not a white portion so I feel like I didn’t get the full experience. My mouth runs wet so I suffer from drip very quickly and never got to hold a portion longer than 30 minutes.

When I received Lundgrens Mojito portions, I was excited. Rum is wonderful. Mint and lime are also wonderful. Combined…well, you get the picture.

The can’s presentation is simple and straightforward – plain white, simple, easy. No nonsense. The lid has a portion holder that doesn’t come completely off, which is INCREDIBLY useful. I’m really clumsy and when I am using my regulars, the holder lids tend to slip out of my hands and roll away from me, to great frustration. These lids should be the norm.

Eager to find out more, I opened the can to find white portions, somewhat small (hey, they ARE slim), but what really captivated me was the aroma – while a mojito contains lime and mint, the lime is far more pronounced, but the mint is there, subtly making its presence felt If I didn’t know better, I’d swear there was a hint of rum as well.

The flavor is very, very mild. It’s there, but a person like me who has most likely blown out their tastebuds from going to extremes had trouble picking it up initially. So, like any good reviewer or flavor explorer would do, I put 2 portions in, one on each side. The lime is probably the most pronounced flavor in the profile, even providing a mouth-watering tartness to the snus. The mint and any other flavors are muted at best, yielding to the citrus flavor of lime. This in itself isn’t a bad thing, but the balance isn’t what I expected. I’ll rarely say a snus is bad; only that it’s not necessarily my thing. This isn’t a bad snus. It’s well-balanced, delicate, and unique. But it’s on the mild side for my taste profile. They are fairly slow to drip as well, which to me and any snus user wanting to get value, is a plus. I always feel that a quick dripping snus is a wasted opportunity – the longer I can savor one, the happier I am because that makes a can last longer.

This may be my own undoing here as I’m used to bold flavors in pretty much everything I consume. Where most people keep salt and pepper on the table, I keep sriracha and chili paste. Most people consider a mixed drink to be like a mojito, a medley of flavors, none overwhelming the others. To me, a mixed drink is Islay whisky with ice. (Note: Islay whisky is by far the strongest flavored of all Scotch, heavy, smoky, and deep)

Throwing my own personal bias out the window and rating this snus for what it is, I would still give it a solid It’s definitely a one of a kind flavor, a refreshing island breeze in a world of limited choices. Personally, if it was a little bolder with its flavors, I’d use it more often if not make it a regular to change things up from my minty daily regime. Now, if we want to dream, a pina colada snus would get my full attention.

As always, you should give it a try, every snus deserves our love and attention.

LG Slim White Strong Portion

“the Flexlid technology is a great addition to snus cans”

Hey snusers!

Today I´m reviewing Lundgrens slim white extra strong, a pleasant upgrade of regular LG slim white. The snus is decently strong, but not as other extra strong portions. The can itself is equipped with Flexlid, which is a new lid technology, which allow you to stick more used portions as it gets bigger every time you put portions into it.

After opening the can, it greets you with nice herbal and pine smell, also a little bit of citrus odor. The nicotine kicks in quite fast, it doesn’t take more then 5 minutes. The taste is very similar to the smell, as I mostly felt pine and a hint of earthy herbs, it´s a bit sweet and overall the taste is very good. Later on you get a great tobacco taste. It lasts up to more then one hour and it could be more, but it stops hitting after this hour.

To sum up, I liked Ludgrens slim white extra strong quite a lot, it´s tasty and I enjoyed the Flexlid technology, a great addition to snus cans I haven´t heard of before. I´m giving it  because it could be stronger (it should be called extra strong for a reason), otherwise it´s a great snus and I definitely recommend it to all strong snus lovers.

Lundgrens Skåne Vit

“By Snusers, for Snusers”

This is the tag-line you get greeted by when you’re opening a can of “Lundgrens Skåne Vit”.

A quick aroma of licorice and salmiak enters your nose when you open the can. The weird design of the little dump flap at the top greets you with a letter from the company reminding you that they are serious with their tobacco. You can also see the passion for tobacco craftsmanship with the shape of the teabags their wrapped in. It’s an interesting design, when there are holes in the bags.

“Wait a minute” I hear you ask, why would you poke holes in the bags?!

Taste, that’s the focus of Lundgrens snus. Unlike the big companies that produce such snus as “Göteborgs rapé” and “General”, which tend to have a shorter lasting taste and be a bit more runny, “Lundgrens Skåne Vit” provides taste > all. The focus on taste makes the runniness in the mouth exceedingly small, which also gives the snuser less of a dry throat.

However, while the taste lasts for a long time and provides the snuser from having a coughing fit and drinking large amounts of water which tend to ruin the taste of other snus, it’s not that strong. Other snusers are looking for the burning sensation in the lip, this does not provide that. It’s kind of tame. But like a good craft beer, It’s not about the power-level of the snus that matters, Lundgrens knows what proficient snusers are looking for and what matters, It’s taste. A long, lasting taste.

Lundgrens Skåne Vit :

Best time for the snus: Early morning, keep the can in your fridge overnight for the cold sensation (Always keep your snus fresh).

Meal and Drink: Lundgrens has a tendency to be extra tasteful after a meal of meat. Any kind of meat really. From a classic burger to pork chops. For drinks, I would recommend chandlery, ice water and coffee.

Time of the year: Autumn and early winter
