Epok Ice Cool Mint

“The peppermint punches you right in the face”

Gimmicks and innovations. Both have strong selling power, new and exciting features, and make you want to get your hands on them. With a gimmick, though, those selling points don’t actually come to fruition, and you likely don’t care about getting your hands on the product anymore after the initial use. An innovation, on the other hand, is a game-changer in its realm. It lives up to the hype, and leaves you wanting more. So what is Epok white snus? A gimmick or a true snus innovation? Let’s find out.

Epok has this line of white snus. Not ‘white’ in the sense that we think of the more dry, no-moisture-added snus, white in the sense that it is physically and visually white. The tobacco is washed and somehow cleansed of all brown color, leaving it white, before then packaging in white pouches. They claim that this removes nitrosamines and heavy metals. The actual process is somewhat vague, though. I’d like to know what exactly goes into the cleansing, as I don’t think water alone could do this. But hey, I’m no scientist.

Let’s get onto the actual snus review. This review is of the Ice Cool Mint slim version, which is also the only strong portion flavour that Epok sells. The others are regular strength. I’ll break it down like I usually do.

The tin is clear plastic and looks really cool. I can see how many portions I have left without opening it up. The snus also does not need to be refrigerated. I can verify that this is true, as I left mine out of the fridge, and it did not clump up or get hard in any way. Stayed fresh to the last portion. The pouch material seems a little weak. The portions stuck together a bit, and when I pulled them apart, the material stretched a bit. That being said, not one portion broke on me (as I have read in other reviews), and I was able to fluff the portions like I normally do, not that they needed much fluffing. I’d be interested to know a little more about this pouch material, as it is very soft and comfortable. Will it live up to continued use? Only more testing will tell, but for now, I’d say that it’s a good material.

The aroma is very strong. The peppermint punches you in the face right when the tin is opened. To me, it is pleasant, but sort of seems a little artificial. I guess that’s how most “ice-flavored” products are. Almost toothpaste-like. There isn’t a lot of tobacco aroma, maybe that is due in part to how the tobacco is washed.

The strength is perfect. There is no doubt that this is strong. I’d even bargain that it could be called extra strong. I got a very pleasing, strong tingle from this stuff. The nicotine hit me quick, and lasted a good 30 to 45 minutes. I’d be interested in trying Epok’s regular strength varieties, as I bet they have a good amount of punch to them as well. As time goes on, and the portion gets moist, there is a good tobacco flavour, that is fairly mild, but evident. Nice and well-rounded.

Overall, this Epok Ice Cool snus is mild in flavour, yet very strong. I wouldn’t call it my all-day snus, but it definitely works its way into my schedule frequently. So is it a gimmick or an innovation? To be honest, I’m leaning towards an innovation. The fact that they have removed the brown color, yet still maintained a classic snus feel is pretty darn unique. What I would like to know is how exactly they process it to be white. But hey, if they gave away all their secrets, that wouldn’t be a very smart innovation, now would it? For now, I’d be happy to use it again and try all the interesting flavors Epok has to offer.

Cheers

Siberia -80 Degrees White

“Colder than my ex-girlfriend’s heart”

I’ve never been to Siberia, and probably never will. It’s cold, large, and did I mention, cold? – similar to this Siberia -80 Extremely Strong white snus, I must say. But while I don’t plan on going to Siberia, I do plan on mingling with Siberia -80 snus in my foreseeable future. Let’s get to it.

Cold – this portion is freezing! Colder than my ex-girlfriend’s heart. Throwing one in the lip and I get no shortage of icy cold tingles. The cool thing about this (pun intended) is that the icy cooling sensation lasts quite a while! As I write this, it’s been half an hour with this snus in, and I don’t have to press my lip hard against my gum to revive that sensation. In short, the freezing mouthfeel lasts the entire duration of using Siberia -80.

Large – this is a relatively large snus, but this is to be expected from a portion packing this much punch. It’s not for the faint of heart. I regularly enjoy my fair share of strong snus, but WOW, this Siberia is on the verge of being lethal! I literally decided I better take a seat on the couch after putting my first portion in. The nicotine hits you right in the cranium. Strength aside, these guys made a wonderful pouch of tobacco. Extremely soft, very fluffy. No need to fluff the portion because it’s already as soft and supple as a well-fed sheep.

The taste of this snus is mint, I’d say spearmint. This is more so evident in the aroma, but of course also the taste. Tobacco taste is very nice, but mild. Definitely pleasing. There is little to no drip with these portions – exactly how I like and expect a white portion to be.

If you’re looking for a very strong snus, with a long lasting icy taste and feel, look no further. But do be warned, this stuff is strong and not for a beginner snuser.

Cheers!

Nick & Johnny Americana Portion

“pure essence of summer memories”

Hi Guys,

If your wondering what Snus will be making a regular appearance under my lip this summer look no further because here is the down low. This summer my main Snus choices are going to be General Snus in collaboration with Mackmyra (see my review that was posted on June 27th) to find out why! And then Nick and Johnny Americana Snus because it is the pure essence of my summer memories.

On opening the Americana can you get a very cherry smell initially with the tobacco coming through afterwards with hints of spices. The smell alone reminds me of summers gone by. The flavor of the Snus is beautiful you get a gorgeous taste of cherry and cinnamon with some nutty flavors coming through shortly afterwards which is then followed by the taste of top quality tobacco. The flavor really holds its own and still has a great taste about an hour later.I started to notice a small drip after about 40 minutes but it could easily be looked past because of the great taste.

This is one of my favorite Snus’s for the summer and makes frequent trips to under my lip. Try this unique Snus you will be delighted by its flavor.

I’m planning on having a pretty relaxed summer with a few day trips and other activities planned however I will end my summer this year by celebrating my birthday in NYC. I hope you all have a great Summer and I would love to hear about your plans and what kind of snus who will appear under your lip this summer, so please comment about them below!

General Mackmyra

“Just fantastic”

Here’s my review for General Snus in Collaboration with Mackmyra.

On opening the can you get a lovely smell of Tobacco with the whisky hints in the background. And can tell already that it has been blended perfectly before you have even put it in your mouth.

The taste of this snus is fantastic and I mean fantastic, it starts of with the normal great tobacco taste we all know and love form General Snus products, but it also has the great light and fruity notes from the Mackmyra whisky almost right away and then after a couple of minutes you start to get a gorgeous slightly spicy peaty flavor coming through.

The flavor really holds up as well over an hour in and it still tastes great and I only noticed a very minimal drip around the hour mark. This is by far without a doubt the best whisky Snus I have ever tried and will 100% be making a very regular appearance under my lip.

All in all a huge well done to everyone at General Snus and Mackmyra whisky. You have created the ultimate Swedish Snus.

An easy

Matt
