Best Dip Products - Top 10

Chad Jones

Chad “Snubie” Jones gives you his ten favourite dip products.

I have an interesting history with dip products.  I grew up in the South, so I have been around more dippers in my life than I have smokers.  I tried it for the first time almost 20 years ago, but I didn’t end up sticking with it.  I was a smoker at the time.  However, over the past decade plus of writing about snus, I’ve explored the dip world here and there.  It’s not something I use full time, but it has found a place, that’s for sure.

I primarily use pouched products, mainly for discretion.  However, I like the long cuts/extra long cuts when I’m outdoors, because they certainly add to the experience.  In the non-pouched format, I’ve found I’m more partial to extra long cuts, because they’re incredibly easy to pinch and use.  It’s a shame there aren’t more of them out there.  There are a few long cuts I like, though.  In regards to flavor, I’m generally more attracted to natural/straight flavors.  In snus, there aren’t really any products that compare to the straight flavor, so it’s one I can only find with dip products; a big reason why I find myself using these products from time to time.

When it comes to smokeless products, I can easily put together a top 10 snus list.  I can do a top 10 nicotine pouch list, but it takes some time.  I’ve never done a top 10 dip products list.  And I haven’t been able to find any others online, so I thought it would be a challenge to try to put together a top 10 list of dip products on the market.  It’s more of a personal top 10, because these are the ones I’ve reviewed and enjoyed the most.  And yes, it’s a mix of pouches and long cut/extra long cut, because I think it’s important to look at all aspects!

This list is in no particular order, so let’s dive right in and check it out!

Pouched Products

Timber Wolf Peach Pouches

Flavor Description:  “Timber Wolf Peach Pouches has a taste of peach”.

Can Weight:  23.25g / 0.82oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  I’m a big Swedish Match fan, and since they own Pinkerton Tobacco as well as the Timber Wolf and Longhorn brands, you’ll find a bunch of their products here.  Mainly, it’s because I know they make a quality product.  This one made the list because Peach is a great summer flavor, and not a very common one.  I like the blending of the subtle tobacco base with a fresh peach flavor in this one.  Not something I’d use all the time, but fun to mix things up a bit.

Timber Wolf Mint

Flavor Description:  “Timber Wolf Mint Pouches has a fresh taste of mint”.

Can Weight:  23.25g / 0.82oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  I don’t use a lot of mint and wintergreen products.  Mint is a part of my rotation, but not a full time part.  So, I wanted to add a mint product to this list.  One thing I like about dip products with a mint flavor is that they don’t lose the tobacco taste.  In many, such as this one, the mint flavor serves as a compliment to the tobacco taste.  The mint flavor is refreshing, and comes through clearly with this one, and it provides an accent to the tobacco base flavor in this one.

Longhorn Straight Pouches

Flavor Description:  “Longhorn Straight Pouches has a taste of tobacco, spices, and sweetness.”

Can Weight:  17.86g / 0.63oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  Straight is a flavor that doesn't exist in snus.  When I get a craving for a dip product, it’s usually a straight flavored product.  This one is probably my favorite in the pouch format.  It’s perfectly blended tobacco flavor with subtle spices and a nuanced sweetness in the flavor profile.

Longhorn Natural Pouches

Flavor Description:  “Longhorn Natural Pouches has a flavor of tobacco”.

Can Weight: 23.25g / 0.82oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  I like the “Natural” flavor category of dip products because it’s as basic as it gets.  And I like that sort of thing, just getting down to basics with a classic, simple tobacco taste.  While this one also has notes of smoke and wood to it, the tobacco flavor shines through very well and provides an enjoyable experience.

Skoal Berry Pouches

Flavor Description:  “Skoal Berries 82oz Original Pouches has a fruity taste of berries”.

Can Weight: 23.25g / 0.82oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  Okay, I know, I know, some of you may chuckle at this one.  Skoal Berry gets joked about a lot in the dip community.  But, I’m not one who really concerns myself with stereotypes or anything like that, so I don’t mind using this one from time to time.  It has a nice tobacco base with natural notes of raspberry, and subtle hints of grape.  While not something I could use all the time, it’s one I like to mix things up with from time to time.

Loose Tobacco Products

Grizzly Natural Extra Long Cut

Flavor Description:  “Grizzly Natural Extra Long Cut has a pure tobacco taste perfected by carefully blending selected tobaccos with complex robust flavors to deliver a truly captivating product. Its subtle taste combinations emerge throughout the experience to produce a unique tobacco satisfaction”.

Can Weight:  34.02g / 1.2oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  When it comes to loose tobacco dip products, extra long cuts are my favorite.  They’re incredibly easy to work with.  It’s a shame there aren’t more of them out there.  This is my favorite of the ELC products.  It has a complex flavor with present notes of tobacco, a subtle smoky flavor, and notes of wood.  The flavor on this one is complex, but very well balanced.  It’s not super in your face, and is one you can use all day long.

Copenhagen Natural Extra Long Cut

Flavor Description:  “Copenhagen Natural Extra Long Cut has a taste of tobacco”.

Can Weight:  34.02g / 1.2oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  While I like Grizzly’s version better, this one isn’t one to sleep on.  It has a really good flavor.  The taste seems to be a little more bold than Grizzly’s, but it’s still just as enjoyable.  The tobacco base is the star of this one, and the smokiness provides a nice backbone to it.  I pick up subtle nuances of wood kicking around in this one as well.  But all in all, it’s quite a tasty product.

Copenhagen Southern Blend Long Cut

Flavor Description:  “Copenhagen Southern Blend Long Cut has a taste of tobacco”.

Can Weight:  34.02g / 1.2oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  Where I live in the South, this one is quite popular.  I know a lot of dippers here who really enjoy this one.  This one has common attributes of natural dip products:  tobacco, smoke, and wood.  This one differs a little because it has a slightly sweet tinge in the back, and almost a tea-like presence to it.  It’s a very well rounded flavor, and one that I find myself reaching for in the warm summer months.  It definitely makes me think of summer in the South!

Longhorn Wintergreen Chill Long Cut

Flavor Description:  “Longhorn Wintergreen Chill Long Cut has a taste of wintergreen”.

Can Weight:  34.02g / 1.2oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  I’m not the biggest user of wintergreen products.  I know these flavors are incredibly popular, but it’s not the sort of thing I really use much of.  But, this one is something special, and quite unique.  It’s not the usual, in your face, straight up wintergreen.  It’s a much more subtle taste of wintergreen, and it’s balanced out by these notes of mint that really back up that wintergreen flavor profile.  While not something I use full time, I find if I get a craving for wintergreen this is the one I always go to.

Timber Wolf Straight Long Cut

Flavor Description:  “Timber Wolf Straight Long Cut has a taste of tobacco, spices, sweetness”.

Can Weight:  34.02g / 1.2oz

Nicotine Strength:  “Regular”

Why it made the list:  In terms of all the straight products I’ve had, this is one that I keep going back to.  Again, a lot of it is due to the fact that Swedish Match owns Pinkerton, and I’m familiar with their strict quality standards.  I enjoy the straight flavor.  It’s very unique, and not one that exists in the snus world.  It reminds me of tobacco mixed with root beer, which is a rather unique experience.  I use it more often in the pouch format, but if I want to get close to the tobacco flavor, this is the one I reach for.

Wrap-Up / Final Thoughts

I’ve had and reviewed quite a lot of dip products, but at the end of the day, these are the ten that I’ve enjoyed the most.  Again, I sure do wish there were more extra long cut products, because there’s just something about that format that really adds to the experience.  I’ve found I mostly prefer straight and natural flavors, but will occasionally reach for a flavored product like Wintergreen Chill, or the occasional mint product.  But, these ten are definitely the ones that I find myself enjoying above all else.
