Northerner's Commitment to Those Who Serve

May is Military Appreciation Month, and, at Northerner, we believe the ones who protect, serve, and strengthen our nation—without ever asking for recognition—are the true heroes. As we mark this meaningful month with Armed Forces Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, and Memorial Day, we’re reminded of the extraordinary dedication and quiet everyday sacrifices made by service personnel and their families every single day. 

This month we pause to reflect, remember, and say thank you. We're proud to reaffirm our ongoing support of the military community.  

Unfortunately, due to the nature of their jobs, our nation’s service men and women often carry more than their fair share of stress.

According to a recent survey we conducted, 71% of active military members and veterans report higher stress levels, compared to just over half of civilians (54%). Add to that the emotional weight of political, social, and personal pressures, and it's no surprise that 16% report turning to substances like tobacco or alcohol to cope.

As a responsible retailer, we recognize this reality. It’s why we’re committed to providing access to smoke-free, reduced-risk alternatives to traditional tobacco products. It's also why we took the decision to stop selling dip, chew and snuff at the end of last year.

We believe that making informed, mindful choices should be easier for those who’ve given so much of themselves. Military Appreciation Month is our chance to say it a little louder: We see you, and we support you. 

So, as the Memorial Day long weekend approaches, we'd like to thank every service member—past or present—as well as the families who stand beside them. Your strength, dedication, and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.
