ALP Pouches Review: What Do Reddit Users Think?

• Chilled Mint and Tropical Fruit were panel favourites, which matched opinions on Reddit.
• Mountain Wintergreen was praised on Reddit but divided our panel.
• Both Reddit users and our panel reported flavour lasting around 30-45 minutes.
• Newly arrived in the UK, the ALP range includes ultra strong 18mg options.

ALP recently arrived at Northerner UK, bringing a range of tobacco-free snus in mint, fruit, and berry flavours.

Naturally, we wanted to see what they were like!

So, we got our four Pouch Pros to put ALP to the test. They tried four flavours (Chilled Mint, Spearmint, Mountain Wintergreen, and Tropical Fruit), in 3 different strengths: 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg.

But four opinions can only tell us so much. We wanted to know what real-life ALP users thought, too. And where better to look than Reddit?

We scoured one of the world’s biggest online forums to see what flavours people were recommending, what they liked (and didn’t like), and whether their experiences matched ours.

Note: Because ALP is relatively new to Europe, we looked at American Reddit for feedback. Bear in mind that product formulations may differ between the US and European markets, so the experiences shared might not fully reflect the ALP products available in the UK.

ALP is an American nicotine pouch brand launched in 2024 as a joint venture between media personality Tucker Carlson and Turning Point Brands.

Having first launched in the US, ALP has recently made its way to Europe and the UK, with a range of nicotine pouches.

Here’s a quick look at what ALP offers on Northerner UK:

• Flavours: Eight options, including Chilled Mint, Frostbite, Tropical Fruit, and Cherries & Berries.
• Strengths: 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg per pouch

But are ALP pouches any good? We put four flavours to the test and compared our experiences with what American Redditors have been saying.

From favourite flavours to pouch consistency, Reddit users had plenty to say about ALP.

We went through discussions on the forum about ALP from the past two years to see which flavours people kept coming back to, how long they lasted, and whether there were any recurring complaints.

Five comments in particular stood out to us, from users sharing their ALP experience.

These reviews give a pretty good overview of what Redditors thought of this all-American brand.

Let’s dig deeper.

Tropical Fruit and Mountain Wintergreen got plenty of love on Reddit, with several users naming them as their new go-to flavours. Chilled Mint was also highlighted, with one user calling it "the best flavour by far” in the ALP range.

Spearmint, on the other hand, didn’t get quite the same enthusiasm. While some praised ALP's mint flavours, one Redditor described Spearmint as "just okay" and wished it were sweeter.

Tropical Fruit was also a firm favourite among our panel, particularly with Maddie and Ollie who enjoyed the pouch’s fruity flavour profile. Chilled Mint was well-received for its cooling, minty profile.

Mountain Wintergreen split the team, however, and Spearmint received mixed feedback thanks to its slightly sweeter flavour.

Northerner UK offers a wide range of snus flavours, from traditional mint and fruit flavours to more novel profiles, such as coffee and drink flavours.

So, how long does ALP’s flavours actually last?

According to Reddit, quite a while. One user reported that Tropical Fruit "lasts a good 30 to 40 minutes", which was very close to what our testers experienced.

The panel also found that Tropical Fruit, Chilled Mint, and Mountain Wintergreen lasted for approximately 30-40 minutes. So, we were pretty much in agreement with Reddit on this one.

Not every Reddit comment was about flavour. Some users mentioned that the filling inside ALP pouches weren’t always evenly spread out, sometimes gathering at one end.

Other Redditors were quick to offer advice.

One suggested that ALP’s moist format could cause the filling to clump together during transport, so they recommended users to “gently roll them between your thumb and forefinger to break up clumps.”

This wasn’t something we noticed during our testing.

Our panel found that ALP’s pouches were generally soft and comfortable under the lip, with no particular issues with uneven filling.

Now for our own testing.

Our four Pouch Pros tried Chilled Mint, Mountain WIntergreen, Tropical Fruit, and Spearmint, looking at everything from taste and strength to pouch comfort and flavour longevity.

Read on to find out how the Pouch Panel’s experience compared with Reddit feedback.

Our Take

We’re with Reddit on this one. Our panel enjoyed Chilled Mint’s strong peppermint flavour without the overpowering icy feeling that can come with some mint pouches. Most of the testers found that the flavour lasted around 35-40 minutes.

Both Sophie and Marvin voted Chilled Mint as their favourite. They enjoyed the long-lasting cooling effect which was just the right level of intensity for them.

If you like refreshing peppermint but don’t want an overly icy pouch, Chilled Mint might be worth considering.

Our Take

This is where our opinions started to differ from Reddit. Mountain Wintergreen definitely has a distinctive taste, but it wasn’t for everyone on our panel.

Sophie wasn’t a fan of the herbal flavour, preferring more traditional mint pouches. Marvin and Ollie, however, enjoyed the herbal-mint combo.

So, while Mountain Wintergreen was a Reddit favourite, it was more divisive among our testers. If you’re after something a little different from a straightforward mint pouch, it’s unusual herbal flavour might be of interest.

18mg is among the strongest pouches on offer at Northerner UK. For more information on high-strength snus available in the UK, read our World’s Strongest Snus article.

Our Take

More consensus! We seemed to agree with Reddit again when it came to Tropical Fruit.

Our panel also got around 30-40 minutes of flavour. The strongest fruity notes faded after 10-20 minutes, but the taste was still noticeable for quite a while afterwards.

Where we differed was on moisture. None of our testers found Tropical Fruit particularly dry compared to the other ALP flavours.

Tropical Fruit was Maddie and Ollie’s favourite. Maddie liked how long the fruity flavour lasted, while Ollie particularly enjoyed the subtle tanginess.

Our Take

We had a slightly different experience and actually thought that Spearmint was noticeably sweeter than Chilled Mint.

That sweetness wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the flavour profile was a little too mellow for Marvin, who prefers a more intense mint pouch.

While Spearmint didn't stand out for intensity, it may appeal to those who prefer sweet spearmint flavours rather than the icy sensation of stronger mint varieties.

ALP nicotine pouches come in three strengths on Northerner UK, from 6mg up to 18mg per pouch.

So, how does ALP stack up against brands you might already know, like Nordic Spirit and VELO?

Our panel compared two ALP flavours with similar products from these brands to see how they differ in taste, pouch feel, and strength:

• ALP Tropical Fruit Vs. Nordic Spirit Tropical Mix
• ALP Spearmint Vs. VELO Bright Spearmint

Results

• Both are moist, slim pouches with tropical fruit flavours, but with some differences.
• ALP has a wider mix of fruit flavours and isn't too sweet.
• Nordic Spirit leans more towards sweet pineapple and mango.
• ALP may suit users who enjoy fruit pouches that aren't as sweet.
• ALP also comes in higher strengths than Nordic Spirit offers.

Results

• Both offer refreshing spearmint flavours, but taste quite different.
• ALP is the sweeter, with a mellow, chewing-gum-like flavour.
• VELO Bright Spearmint has a crisper and more intense minty snesation.
• ALP comes in 3 strengths (6mg, 12mg, or 18mg).
• VELO offers more lower-strength and mini pouch options (4mg, 6mg, 8mg, and 14mg).

So, after testing four ALP flavours and seeing what Reddit had to say…what’s our verdict?

Chilled Mint and Tropical Fruit were the clear favourites among our panel. Chilled Mint got the balance of peppermint and cooling just right, while Tropical Fruit stood out for its long-lasting fruity taste and slight tanginess.

And as it turns out, Reddit largely agrees.

Both flavours received plenty of positive comments online, although Mountain Wintergreen was where our opinions differed most. American Redditors seemed to be big fans of its distinctive herbal flavour, but our panel was split.

Spearmint was another flavour that didn’t quite win everyone over. Reddit feedback was mixed, and some of our testers also found it to be a little too mellow.

Both our panel and Reddit agreed that most flavours lasted 30-45 minutes. The only comment we didn’t experience ourselves was uneven pouch filling, but this seemed easy enough to solve according to some Redditors.
