1. Can you tell us a bit about your role as Warehouse Manager and what a typical day looks like behind the scenes at Northerner UK?
“Each morning starts with coffee and checking overnight orders, which are then prioritised according to carrier schedules. Orders must be processed and ready before collection. Stock levels are monitored to keep popular products available, requiring regular restocking and system updates. The daily routine also includes preparing surprise extras for customer orders, a valued signature touch that calls for coordinated planning and effort.”
2. With so many products to manage, what’s your secret to keeping everything organised and running smoothly?
“While we are not perfect, we strive for excellence. Our WMS system tracks processes, and although picking and packing are done manually—leaving some room for error—we scan each item's unique barcode to minimise mistakes. Orders are scanned again and checked at the packing station. We achieve 99.90% accuracy and are proud of this accomplishment.”
3. Can you walk us through the journey of an order from the moment it arrives at the warehouse to when it is sent out for delivery?
“After a customer places an order, it enters our WMS (warehouse management system) in under a minute. From there, the order is assigned to a batch in the warehouse. We have over 500 different nicotine pouches each with a unique location, so with the aid of scanners, we are guided by the system to pick each item and quantity purchased. As mentioned before, every article is scanned individually. Then, the order arrives at the packing bench, where we can see the order details, pictures, and quantities on the screen. After verifying the order again, it is packed and placed in the carrier cage, where its journey begins.”
4. If a customer could see one thing about how the warehouse operates, what would you want them to notice?
“If there is one aspect, I would want customers to know about our warehouse operations, it would be the meticulous attention to detail and the dedication that goes into every single order!”
5. Do you have a favourite product or is there a product that is most popular among the warehouse team? If so, which product is it?
“When I first tried nicotine pouches, Klint Coffee Caramel caught my attention. Over time, I've enjoyed many different brands and flavours, and some smell incredible. Now, my top list includes various options—from XQS's recently launched flavours to the new Après Banana, which smells even stronger than my perfume!”
